If your child finds dental treatment frightening or stressful, sometimes the best solution is to let him or her sleep through it. At Woodbridge Kids Dentistry, we care about your child’s comfort during dental care, and may recommend Pediatric Care Asleep.
Pediatric Care Asleep is the name given to a special technique that allows your child to receive comfortable treatment by gently placing them asleep using a mixture of medications. For some children, this will allow them to complete the entirety of their dental treatment in a single visit.
If your child requires extensive treatment that would require multiple separate appointments, your child is sufficiently frightened, or has extreme difficulty with dental appointments, then your Woodbridge Kids care team may evaluate your child as a good candidate for Pediatric Care Asleep. Pediatric Care Asleep will allow your child to receive quality dental care while avoiding the sensations, sounds and discomforts that compounds their anxiety and fear. The reduction in stresses can make dental treatment safer, especially if your child has a pre-existing medical condition.
Were you to wait for general anesthesia in a hospital setting, you may be on a waiting list of 8 to 12 months, during which time your child would experience pain and abscesses. Or worse, your child’s treatment needs may be increased, since cavities progress very rapidly in baby teeth. A benefit of choosing Woodbridge Kids Dentistry is that our facility is able to provide general anesthesia with a shorter wait.
Woodbridge Kids Dentistry is certified by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) to provide General Anesthesia services. Woodbridge Kids Dentistry is a complete pediatric dental specialty care center that includes a general anesthesia specific operating room, dental treatment operatories, and a surgical recovery room for post-operative patients. The Woodbridge Kids Dentistry team includes the services of a medical anesthetist for the purpose of all deep sedation and/or anesthesia that our treasured patients may require.
Receiving Pediatric Care Asleep at Woodbridge Kids Dentistry is just as safe as having the procedure performed at a hospital. The Woodbridge Kids Dentistry team consists of a skilled specialty Pediatric Dentist, Medical Anesthetist, Nurse(s), Chairside Dental Assistant(s) and experienced pediatric dental office staff who facilitate treatment to our valued patients. Our staff of caring and qualified professionals is dedicated to providing optimal care before, during and after your child’s procedure. Anything less wouldn’t live up to our high standards.
At the consultation appointment we will assess your child’s needs and obtain details from you about his or her general health, along with medical and dental history (if one exists). The Woodbridge Kids Dentistry treatment coordinator will discuss your child’s treatment plan as well as any sedation/general anesthesia options that may be indicated. During this time, we will discuss any such pre-operative protocols as are medically indicated. Woodbridge Kids Dentistry will provide an estimate for the cost of your child’s treatment and prepare the appropriate insurance forms. Should you have any questions about any step of this process, please ask! Our team believes that a well informed patient family is the best type!
If your child is chosen to take part in our Pediatric Care Asleep option, you will be given a printed, detailed general anesthesia package that includes a pre-operative check-list that you MUST follow.
In particular, your child MUST NOT eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to treatment. If your child becomes ill (fever, infection, etc) before their surgery date, please inform us in case we need to reschedule the surgery date. After approximately 8 hours, most children return to feeling normal. A short, post-operative appointment will be booked for a time period of one week after surgery. Please feel free to ask questions at any of these appointments.
The cost of Pediatric Care Asleep depends on the length of your child’s treatment and the type of treatment required. Many insurance plans reimburse a portion of the costs associated with this kind of dental care.
At the consultation appointment, the knowledgeable Woodbridge Kids Dentistry Office Staff will submit an estimate to your insurance company. The insurance company will respond to YOU by mail with an explanation of benefits regarding your coverage for treatment. While we cannot speak for your insurance company, it generally takes 4-6 weeks to receive a response from the insurance company. Our office will not receive the explanation of benefits, as it will go directly to you.
The world of insurance is confusing. Please allow us to assist you in understanding your child’s dental coverage.
A nonrefundable deposit of $250 is required in order to secure an appointment time for your child’s dental care. This deposit, while nonrefundable, will be applied toward the cost of the dental treatment.
A minimum of one week before your child’s surgery appointment, all the costs of treatment must be paid in full.
The treatment plan is an estimate only and if more treatment is required at the time of surgery an additional fee amount will be billed. In this case, you will be responsible for the additional fees on the day of surgery. If treatment is less than the estimate, we will refund the overage, promptly. On the surgery date, any additional changes in the treatment plan, we will attempt to inform you before we continue to proceed.
Our knowledgeable Office Staff will work with you in coordinating your insurance benefits.
