5 Tips to get your kids to brush before bedtime



Arm yourself with a toothbrush and a toothpaste, it’s time to fight cavities. What? You already know the importance of good oral healthcare. Then why are you reading this?For your kids, eh! The lengths we go to for our children. Well, teaching children about oral healthcare is tricky. You probably can’t even get them to sit in one place long enough to have their dinner.Wait! Don’t go away! I said it was tricky, I didn’t say it was impossible. I mean, what kind of problem solver would I be, if I was stumped by something like kid’s oral hygiene? Here are a few tips to encourage your kids to brush their teeth before bedtime.

Lead the way

If you really want your kids to brush their teeth, join them. Pick up your brush, apply some toothpaste on it and start brushing amigo. With you scrubbing your teeth by their side, your kids will be encouraged to do the same. You’ll even be able to keep an eye on their brushing technique and correct them if they’re doing it wrong.

Bribery goes a long way when it comes to conditioning your child’s behavior. Tell your kids that you’ll read them an extra bed time story, if they brush their teeth on time. Watch those rug rats scurrying away to the bathroom in a heartbeat. If bribery doesn’t do the trick, you’ll have to resort to more sinister tactics. Prevent them from watching their favorite TV show until they’ve brushed their teeth.

Who said brushing can’t be fun?

Oral hygiene doesn’t really have to be such a dull task. Find ways to liven up the mood with some fun activities. You can play your kid’s favorite songs in the bathroom, so your child associates brushing with music. Just because you brush your teeth in absolute silence, doesn’t mean your kids have to. Play ‘I spy’ with your children to distract them from the fact that they’re brushing their teeth. Games can really make the experience much more enjoyable for kids.

Time to reveal the downside

They can teach them the essentials of oral hygiene and instill in them important habits like brushing. It’ll be more effective if your kids hear these things from someone other than yourself and who’s wearing a white lab coat.

It’s important that children cultivate the habit of brushing before bedtime while they’re still young. Or else, they’ll foregoit even after they’ve grown up.
